FORNEBU, NorwayVattenfall has issued Aker Solutions and Siemens Energy a limited notice to proceed with work on the Norfolk Boreas offshore wind project off England’s East Anglian coast.

The consortium will provide the grid connection infrastructure for the wind farm, including the EPCI of the high voltage direct current (HVDC) offshore platform, onshore substation and connection to the UK’s National Grid.

The development of the Norfolk Offshore Wind Zone could entail installation of up to three HVDC platforms in succession at the location more than 47 km off the Norfolk coast, with an installed capacity of 1.4 GW.

Norfolk Boreas represents the first phase of Vattenfall’s Norfolk Offshore Wind Zone and should deliver first power in the mid-late 2020s. Subject to regulatory approvals, the final investment decision is expected during spring 2023. Aker Solutions estimates its value of the contract in the range NOK 2.5 billion to NOK 3.5 billion (US$223 million to US$321 million).
