PERTH, Australia — Copenhagen Energy has issued details of Samphire, the third of its four planed offshore wind farms in Commonwealth and State waters off Western Australia.
Samphire will feature up to 200 turbines and six substation platforms in Commonwealth waters delivering 3 GW of renewable electricity. Subsea export cables through State waters will connect the development to a transfer station on land at a location between 60 km and 120 km north of Perth.
Turbines will be constructed 10 km to 44 km offshore between Lancelin and Two Rocks within a project area of up to 700 sq km. The project should offset up to 6 MM metric tons per year of CO2.
Earlier, Copenhagen Energy sent proposals for the Leeuwin offshore wind farm off the west coast between Mandurah and Bunbury, and the Midwest offshore wind farm, close to Kalbarri, to the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) for initial assessment under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act.
Copenhagen Energy will submit its proposal for a fourth project, the Velella offshore wind farm, to DCCEEW.
CEO Jasmin Bejdic said momentum was building for an offshore wind farm sector in Australia, with the federal government announcing six areas nationally that will be considered for development.
Pending approvals, Copenhagen Energy aims to start construction of its Samphire project in 2029.
