TEL AVIV, Israel — Eco Wave Power Global has started test runs of a wave energy pilot project at the Port of Jaffa in Tel Aviv.
The EWP-EDF One project is a collaboration with EDF Renewables IL and the Israeli Energy Ministry.
Trials started in July to assess the performance of the mechanical and hydraulic subsystems. Eco Wave Power floaters were lowered to the water and tested for the first time.
The next phases of the project will now proceed, including a grid connection and testing of the overall system, to be followed by full operation.
“We are now working hard to ensure that the EWP-EDF One pilot project will be functioning and operating at optimum levels,” said Inna Braverman, CEO of Eco Wave Power.
Board member David Leb added: “We are looking forward to the completion of the grid connection works by the Israeli Electric Company, which will enable us to start providing clean, renewable electricity to Israel’s national grid through the power of the waves.”
Eco Wave Power will shortly start installing its newest pilot in AltaSea’s premises in the Port of Los Angeles. It also holds concession agreements for commercial installations in Europe with a total projects pipeline of 327.7 MW.
In January, Eco Wave Power and Ocean Power Technologies announced they were working to use their complementary technologies and skills to accelerate wave energy projects. The companies said they will work together on several fronts, including knowledge sharing, joint grant submissions and collaborative assistance in entry to new markets.
