LUDWIGSHAFEN, Germany — The Hollandse Kust Zuid wind farm in the Dutch North Sea has generated its first electricity.
The first operating turbines, while still in the testing phase, are producing electricity that is transferred to shore via an offshore transformation station into the Dutch grid.
Construction continues on the wind farm, located 18 km to 35 km from the Dutch mainland between The Hague and Zandvoort.
So far, 36 turbines have been installed. When fully operational in 2023, Hollandse Kust Zuid will be the world’s largest subsidy-free offshore wind farm, with 140 turbines and an installed capacity of 1.5 GW.
