ABERDEEN, UK— The partners in the Salamander project have appointed Wood as principal designer responsible for the pre-FEED scope for the 100-MW floating wind farm development offshore eastern Scotland.
Simply Blue Group and partners Ørsted and Subsea 7 plan to construct the development 35 km offshore Peterhead in 100 m water depth—beyond the limit for conventional fixed offshore wind turbines.
Wood will conduct and manage a system level pre-FEED to assist planning, costing and risk-assessment of a FEED design process.
In addition, the company will manage the interfaces with the foundation designer and provide design services for the subsea and onshore cables, grid and onshore electrical connection. The scope extends to wind turbine generator OEM engagement, collection of site data, ports, transport and installation analysis, and operations and maintenance strategy and certification.
The co-venturers plan to progress Salamander through the innovation track of Crown Estate Scotland’s Innovation and Targeted Oil and Gas (INTOG) leasing round, due to open this month.
INTOG will grant seabed leases through an auction process, split into two pots: one for smaller-scale innovation projects of less than 100 MW and the other for larger projects linked to oil and gas infrastructure/deployment of floating offshore wind.
