ROTTERDAM, the Netherlands — A consortium including Van Oord has sold its shares in the Borssele V wind farm in the Dutch North Sea to Octopus Energy Generation.
The 19-MW development, operated by Eneco and comprising two Vestas wind turbines, is part of the 1.5-GW Borssele wind farm cluster. Vandebron is the offtaker.
According to Van Oord, one of Borssele V’s innovations is the world’s first submerged slip joint, a new method for securing turbine foundations.
The company plans to offer this tool on a larger scale in new offshore wind tenders and will monitor and analyze the behavior of the slip joint for a further six years as it pursues improvements in the technology.
Other innovations in the project included tests on integrating biodiversity into future wind farms, the company added.
