ABERDEEN, U.K.—North Star has awarded Alicat Workboats a £2-million ($2.45-million) contract to construct two new daughter craft vessels to support operations at the 3.6-GW Dogger Bank wind farm offshore northeast England.
This follows a similar order from the same client and for the same project last September. The vessels feature a hybrid powered design, developed by naval architect Chartwell Marine, in collaboration with North Star, which combines diesel and electric outboard propulsion.
North Star expects to deliver its first purpose-built fleet for offshore wind operations and maintenance support from next February to the Dogger Bank partners Equinor, SSE Renewables and Eni Plenitude.
Alicat’s four vessels will provide transfer of maintenance technicians and equipment between the support vessels and wind turbines for Dogger Bank phases A, B and C.
Equinor will be lead operator of the wind farm on completion for its expected 35-year operating life.
