BILBAO, Spain – Maersk Supply Service has installed the mooring system for the 2-MW DemoSATH floating wind turbine, which will be tested later this year offshore Spain.
The anchor-handler Maersk Mariner installed six mooring lines comprising hybrid lines of chain and fiber rope as well as six drag anchors with Maersk Mariner. Mobilization and loading and preparation of the vessel took place at the Punta Sollana harbor in Bilbao, where construction of the pre-stressed concrete floater is underway.
Once loaded, the vessel sailed toward the installation site at the BiMEP test area. The lines will be recovered from the seabed for connection to the unit later this year.
Saitec Offshore Technologies is leading the project in collaboration with RWE.
The 2-MW demonstrator unit will be tested in a harsh Atlantic environment 2 miles off the Biscay coast in 85 m water depth.
Main goals are to collect data and gain knowledge from the construction procedure, operation and maintenance of the DemoSATH floating wind platform over a two-year period.
