ROTTERDAM, the Netherlands – Kajima Corp. and Van Oord have been designated preferred Balance of Plant contractors for three offshore wind projects in Japan.
Last December, the Japanese Government selected three consortia, all led by Mitsubishi Corporation Energy Solutions, as operators for the wind farm near Choshi in Chiba in the Tokyo area (391 MW), another (479 MW) off the coast of Noshiro, Mitane and Oga in Akita, northern Japan, and a third offshore Yurihonjo in Akita (819 MW).
The latter will be the country’s largest wind farm. According to Van Oord, execution of the projects should start in the second half of this decade.
