LONDON – Britain’s government has awarded planning consent for Vattenfall’s Norfolk Vanguard wind farm offshore the English east coast.
It follows earlier consent for Vattenfall’s Norfolk Boreas project. Both are included in the proposed Norfolk Offshore Wind Zone, which will provide up to 3.6 GW of renewable electricity capacity.
The offshore site for the two developments extends over a 1,307-sq km (504-sq mi) area, with up to 312 wind turbines. The distance of the nearest turbine from the shore is 47 km (29 mi), and the total length of associated onshore cabling is 60 km (37 mi).
According to Vattenfall, the two projects’ grid infrastructure has been designed to cut construction time, and to minimize local disruption.
