Vattenfall sanctions two Danish North Sea offshore wind farms

Vattenfall has taken the final investment decision for the 344-MW Vesterhav wind projects offshore Denmark.

ZAMUDIO, Spain Vattenfall has taken the final investment decision for the 344-MW Vesterhav wind projects offshore Denmark.

The 176-MW Vesterhav Nord project will be located a maximum of around 8.5 km (5.3 mi) offshore and cover an area of about 40 sq km (15 sq mi). The 21 Siemens Gamesa offshore wind turbines, each with a capacity of 8.4 MW and rotor diameter of 167 m (548 ft), will be commissioned from the Port of Thyborøn. Installation is planned to begin in 2023 and be completed the same year.

The 168-MW Vesterhav Syd project will be located around 10 km (6.2 mi) offshore and cover an area of about 37 sq km (14 sq mi). The 20 Siemens Gamesa offshore wind turbines, each with a capacity of 8.4 MW and rotor diameter of 167 m, will be commissioned from the Port of Hvide Sande. Installation is planned to begin in 2023 and be completed the same year.

The two projects are intended to be completed in 2023. Together, they aim to renewable energy to around 350,000 average Danish households.

Siemens Gamesa said a three-year service agreement, with both projects being served from the Port of Hvide Sande, is included.
