PERTH, UK – Cadeler’s jackup vessel Wind Osprey has installed the first Vestas V164-10.0 MW turbine at the Seagreen offshore wind farm in the North Sea.
According to SSE Renewables, this is the first V164-10.0 MW turbine installed globally. The 1.1-GW project in the outer Firth of Forth will feature 114 wind turbines.
Situated about 27 km (17 mi) off the Angus coast, the £3-billion ($4-billion) wind farm is a joint venture between SSE Renewables (49%) and TotalEnergies (51%). SSE Renewables is leading the development and construction of the project, supported by TotalEnergies, and will operate Seagreen on completion for its expected 25-year lifetime.
The Seagreen turbine installation program is running in parallel with the ongoing foundation installation campaign, which is being run by Seaway 7 out of Scotland’s Port of Nigg.
First power is expected by early next year. It is expected to enter commercial operation in 2023. When complete, Seagreen will be Scotland’s largest, and the world’s deepest, fixed bottom offshore wind farm.
