Prysmian, Asso.subsea to deliver Gruissan wind farm power cable system

RTE has awarded Prysmian Group and Asso.subsea a $35.6-million contract to supply and install a submarine export power cable system for the Gruissan floating wind farm offshore France.

MILAN, Italy – RTE (Réseau de Transport d'Électricité) has awarded Prysmian Group and Asso.subsea a €30-million ($35.6-million) contract to supply and install a submarine export power cable system for the Gruissan floating wind farm offshore southern France.

Prysmian Group will be responsible for the design, supply, termination, testing, and commissioning of one 66 kV three-core 25-km (15.5-mi) export submarine cable with EPR insulation and a 1-km (0.6-mi) 66 kV submarine dynamic cable with EPR insulation between the shore and a floating sub-station.

In addition, the company will provide 3 km (1.86 mi) of onshore 66 kV cables with XLPE insulation. All submarine cables will be manufactured at the company’s plant in Nordenham, Germany, and the land cables at its Gron plant in France. Commissioning is scheduled for July 2023.

Asso.subsea will perform the installations and will also design and perform all marine works, including cable loading, route preparations, cable protection and other works at the landfall.

Prysmian is also supplying cables for France’s Fécamp, Courseulles-sur-Mer, St. Nazaire and Noirmoutier offshore wind farms.
