FORNEBU, Norway – Aker Solutions will supply the HVDC (high-voltage, direct current) converter platform for an unnamed offshore wind project under an EPCI contract, as part of a consortium.
The client is due to issue more details on the project later this summer.
Aker Solutions will start work immediately on the platform, which will comprise a steel jacket supporting a topsides platform deck housing electrical equipment. Installation is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2024. Final deliveries are expected in the second half of 2025.
For offshore wind, the HVDC platform takes AC power generated by the wind turbine generators and converts this to DC prior to transmission through an export cable to the onshore converter station and grid connection system.
