KONGSBERG, Norway – COSCO Shipping (Qidong) Offshore has contracted Kongsberg Maritime (KM) to provide technology packages for two wind turbine installation vessels (WTIV) it is constructing for Cadeler.
The contract is valued at EUR 49 million ($58 million).
KM’s integrated solution for WTIVs combines its optimized thruster package and dynamic positioning functionalities to maintain operability in all conditions.
A K-Chief marine automation system will monitor and control the components. Tailored energy control functionalities are expected to optimize energy efficiency and reduce the WTIVs’ environmental footprints. The battery hybrid electrical system includes ThrustAllocator and PowerBoost to increase the vessels’ operational capability while reducing the number of engines and fuel consumption required for both crane operations and DP maneuvering.
The vessels will also include technology for the regeneration of power from the jacking system and cranes. To further reduce the environmental footprint and minimize downtime, the company will also provide its new onboard advisory system, EcoAdvisor, and a condition-based monitoring system to extend maintenance intervals and detect any anomalies in the rotating equipment.
The first WTIV is expected to be delivered before the end of 3Q 2024. The second is expected by 1Q 2025.
