ROTTERDAM, the Netherlands – RWE has awarded Van Oord an EPCI contract for the foundations and array cables for the Sofia offshore wind farm.
The 1.4-GW Sofia offshore wind farm will be on Dogger Bank in the central North Sea, 195 km (121 mi) off the UK’s northeast coast.
The contract includes the engineering, procurement, construction, and installation of 100 extended monopile foundations without transition pieces and 350 km (217 mi) of array cables. The company said it will sub-contract the fabrication of the foundations and array cables.
The company’s jackup vessel Aeolus will install the foundations, and its cable-lay vessel Nexus will install the cables.
The project will be executed by Van Oord Offshore Wind UK from its MPI Offshore office in Stokesley Teesside. The company said it will create a logistics hub to deliver the comprehensive scope of work.
