STAVANGER, Norway – Equinor will collaborate with ENGIE to assess the production and market potential for hydrogen from natural gas, with the CO2 captured and stored offshore.
The two companies have signed a memorandum of understanding to investigate the development of low-carbon hydrogen value chains in Belgium, the Netherlands and France, and will soon initiate talks with potential customers along with the relevant authorities.
Priorities include developing low-carbon and renewable hydrogen projects at scale to allow industrial customers to significantly lower their CO2 emissions before 2030.
Low carbon and renewable hydrogen should speed up construction of new hydrogen infrastructure and repurposing of current natural gas infrastructure, Equinor added, along the path to net zero emissions in 2050.
