LONDON – The NortH2 Consortium1 has named Mott MacDonald technical integration and optimization contractor for the NortH2 project, which targets large-scale green hydrogen production.
Mott MacDonald will develop conceptual designs that will assist planning ahead of a final investment decision.
NortH2 aims to further development of large-scale production, storage, and transport of green hydrogen to industrial sectors that are presently difficult or unable to electrify.
New offshore wind farms would generate the green power, growing in capacity from 1 GW in 2027 to 4 GW by 2030 and to more than 10 GW in 2040.
These would be additional to wind farms already planned and would be directly linked to the hydrogen plant, with all power used to produce green hydrogen. NortH2 aims to produce 1 million tons/yr of green hydrogen, avoiding CO2 emissions of around 8-10 megatonnes annually.
Mott MacDonald will collate, evaluate and develop technical solutions, also providing cost, scheduling, and risk management services associated with the technical implementation.
The project is set to complete a feasibility study by mid-2021, with project development scheduled to start in the second half of 2021.
