LYSAKER, NorwayAker BP and Aker Offshore Wind have agreed to co-operate on large-scale decarbonization of oil and gas facilities and offshore wind on the Norwegian continental shelf.

This will involve collaborations on concepts for efficient development of large offshore wind parks to assist offtake to oil and gas-producing installations.

Aker Offshore Wind will develop and operate the wind parks with Aker BP contributing industry and technology competence, in addition to being one of the potential customers of electricity generated from offshore wind.

“Electrifying assets using power from offshore wind could be a key enabler to achieve the next step-change in driving down emissions from operations,” said Karl Johnny Hersvik, CEO of Aker BP.

Astrid Skarheim Onsum, CEO of Aker Offshore Wind, added: “Together with partners, suppliers and yards, we would like to realize technology-driven commercial scale projects and support the development of an offshore wind industry in Norway.”
