PAPENDRECHT, the Netherlands – Boskalis has secured its first floating wind transportation and installation contract.
Cobra Wind International placed the order, covering five floating wind turbines for the Kincardine wind farm, 15 km (9.3 mi) offshore Aberdeen, Scotland.
The 9.525 MW-capacity turbines will be anchored to the seafloor at a depth of 60-80 m (197-262 ft).
In September Boskalis’ tug BOKA Falcon will start installing the anchors and chains, while the floating foundations will be transported from Ferrol, northeast Spain to Rotterdam on the semisubmersible barge Fjord.
The wind turbines will be mounted on the foundations in Rotterdam and then towed to the offshore location. In addition, Boskalis will deploy three other anchor handler tug vessels for the project.
