Hess plans fast-track tieback of GoM Pickerel oil discovery

Hess has discovered oil in the Pickerel-1 prospect in Mississippi Canyon Block 727 in the Gulf of Mexico.

The Tubular Bells deepwater oil and gas field lies in about 4,300 ft of water, 135 miles southeast of New Orleans primarily on Mississippi Canyon Block 724.

NEW YORK — Hess has discovered oil in the Pickerel-1 prospect in Mississippi Canyon Block 727 in the Gulf of Mexico.

The Pickerel-1 well encountered net pay of about 90 ft in an oil bearing, Miocene age reservoir. Plans are underway for a tieback of the well to the Tubular Bells production platform, 135 km southeast of New Orleans, with first oil expected in mid-2024.

Offshore Newfoundland, operator BP Canada’s recent Ephesus exploration well (Hess, 25%) did not encounter commercial quantities, Hess said in its latest results statement.
