CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Chevron’s Anchor production platform has begun its journey from the Kiewit Offshore Services facility to its field development site in the Green Canyon area, in approximately 5,000 feet of water.

As reported by Channel 3, the television news station in Corpus Christi, the semisubmersible platform left the Ingleside facility on May 31, to the cheers of well-wishers and family members. Tugboats are towing it out to its planned deployment location in Green Canyon block 87, approximately 140 miles off the coast of Louisiana.

The $5.7-billion Anchor project was the industry’s first deepwater high-pressure development to achieve a final investment decision back in 2019. Stage 1 of the Anchor development consists of a seven-well subsea development and the semisubmersible floating production unit. The platform and the subsea wellhead infrastructure will be capable of handling pressures up to 20,000 psi.

The Anchor platform has a design capacity of 75,000 barrels of crude oil and 28 million cubic feet of natural gas per day. First oil is anticipated in 2024.

According to Chevron, the Anchor platform is “as tall as a 25-story building [with] an area similar to that of a football field.”
