KASSEL, GermanyWintershall Dea has agreed to acquire a 37% interest in the Hokchi Block offshore Mexico from operator Hokchi Energy, the Mexican subsidiary of Pan American Energy, subject to approvals.

The two companies are already partners in Block 2 in the Sureste Basin in the southeastern Gulf of Mexico. It is also close to Wintershall Dea’s Zama, Polok and Chinwol discoveries and the company’s operated Block 30.

The shallow-water Hokchi concession produces oil and gas via a subsea tieback to two offshore platforms, Satellite and Central, and came onstream in May 2020.

From the platforms, the wellstream heads through a 24-km pipeline to an onshore processing facility for separation, treatment and sale to Pemex. Current production is about 26,000 boe/d, with a planned ramp-up to 37,000 boe/d by 2023.

Wintershall Dea has an option to increase its stake in the Kokchi Block to 40% at a later date.
