BERGEN, Norway — Shearwater GeoServices and WesternGeco will jointly perform a newly awarded ocean-bottom node (OBN) survey in the US Gulf of Mexico (GoM).
Engagement 3 is the second project secured under the companies’ recently announced global agreement.
The three-month survey, set to cover a nodal area of about 2,400 sq km, will build on Shearwater's experience from similar OBN geophysical data acquisition conducted in the GoM during 2020.
According to the company, sparse node projects use ultra-long offset OBN data to resolve subsurface imaging issues by integrating new data with existing wide and full-azimuth data to provide geological insights.
Shearwater will deploy the SW Gallien and SW Mikkelsen as source vessels for the project, in combination with ROV node deployment.
WesternGeco will combine new OBN data with existing wide azimuth and Revolution data, through the use of proprietary Enhanced Template Matching Full Waveform Inversion.
Shearwater said this has a track record of improving subsurface imaging resolution and thereby accelerating near-field development with reduced uncertainty.
