Hurricane Ida forces evacuations, shut-ins in the Gulf of Mexico

NEW ORLEANS – Offshore oil and gas operators are evacuating platforms and rigs in the Gulf of Mexico in preparation for Hurricane Ida.
Personnel have been evacuated from 89 production platforms and one rig, according to the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE).
Eleven dynamically positioned rigs have moved off location out of the storm’s projected path as a precaution.
From 25 operator reports, BSEE estimates that about 58.51% of the current oil and 48.79% of the gas production in the Gulf of Mexico have been shut-in. These equate to 1,640,849 b/d of oil and 1,088 MMcf/d of gas.
Shell said it is shutting in production and evacuating all personnel from the Ursa, Mars, Olympus, and Appomattox platforms. In addition, production has been shut in at Stones, Auger, and Enchilada/Salsa. Also, non-essential personnel continue to be moved from all eight of its assets.
bp said it is evacuating personnel and shutting in production from the Atlantis, Mad Dog, Na Kika, and Thunder Horse platforms.
