DALLAS – Kosmos Energy plans to drill a second infrastructure-led exploration (ILX) well this summer at the Zora prospect in the US Gulf of Mexico.
Zora is a Miocene target in the same play as nearby analogous fields Odd Job, Horn Mountain, and Marmalard. It is also close to other prospects in which Kosmos has interests, and is within tieback range of several potential host facilities.
Kosmos has received permits and secured a rig for the well.
Elsewhere in the GoM, the company’s Kodiak-2 well was back online in February following rectification of a subsea infrastructure issue, and the Kodiak-3 infill well also recently came online.
The Tornado-5 infill well should be drilled in the current quarter and then start operations in 3Q.
Following the oil discovery this January at the Winterfell ILX well (Kosmos 17.5%), the partners have been working on an appraisal plan, with a well due to spud in 3Q on the fault block northwest of the discovery.
This has the same seismic signature as Winterfell: the well will include an exploration tail into a deeper horizon. Winterfell too is within tieback distance of multiple existing and planned host facilities.
