Hurricane forces shut-ins, evacuations in the Gulf of Mexico

Personnel have been evacuated from 147 production platforms and three non-dynamically positioned rigs due to Hurricane Sally, according to the Bureau of Environmental Enforcement.

NEW ORLEANS – Offshore operators are evacuating platforms and rigs in the Gulf of Mexico due to Hurricane Sally, according to the Bureau of Environmental Enforcement (BSEE).

Based on data from 29 offshore operator reports submitted as of 11:30 CDT today, personnel have been evacuated from 147 production platforms and three non-dynamically positioned rigs.

Two dynamically positioned rigs have moved off location out of the storm’s projected path.

From operator reports, BSEE estimates that about 21.39% of the current oil production and 25.28% of the natural gas production in the Gulf of Mexico have been shut-in. This equates to 395,790 b/d of oil and 685.03 MMcf/d of gas.
