Hurricane Laura forces more shut-ins, evacuations in the Gulf of Mexico

Offshore operators continue to evacuate platforms and rigs and shut-in oil and gas production in the Gulf of Mexico in response to Hurricane Laura and post-Tropical Cyclone Marco.

NEW ORLEANS – Offshore operators continue to evacuate platforms and rigs and shut-in oil and gas production in the Gulf of Mexico in response to Hurricane Laura and post-Tropical Cyclone Marco.

According to the Bureau of Environmental Enforcement, personnel have been evacuated from 299 production platforms and 11 non-dynamically positioned rigs. Also, all 16 DP rigs currently operating in the Gulf have moved off location out of the storms’ projected paths.

From 45 operator reports, BSEE estimates that about 84.3% of the current oil production, 1,558,883 b/d, and 60.94% of the natural gas production, 1,651.5 MMcf/d, in the Gulf of Mexico have been shut-in.
