ONS 2024: Aker BP, Pandion recognized for work to extend production from Valhall, Hod
Aug. 27, 2024
Aker BP and Pandion Energy have won the Norwegian Offshore Directorate’s Improved Recovery Award for their work on the Valhall and Hod fields in the southern Norwegian North Sea.
Westwood Global Energy Group expects 47 exploration wells to be drilled this year across the Norwegian Continental Shelf, targeting an overall resource of about 2.85 Bboe.
Aker BP and partner Pandion Energy have won the Norwegian Offshore Directorate’s Improved Recovery Award at the Offshore Northern Seas Conference & Exhibition (ONS) in Stavanger for their work on the Valhall and Hod fields in the southern Norwegian North Sea.
The two fields have so far produced almost four times the oil and gas estimates in the original development plans.
The purpose of the Improved Recovery Award, first introduced in 1998, is to recognize creativity, perseverance and willingness to take risks to improve recovery beyond expectations in existing plans and methods.
Valhall was discovered in 1975, with the original operator Amoco starting production in 1982. This was followed by the tieback of the nearby Hod field, which began production in 1990.
Aker BP assumed operatorship of both fields in 2016 with Pandion participating as a licensee since 2017.
Power from shore, introduced in 2013, has helped reduce emissions from both fields.
The fields partners aim to implement new technology to increase production from tight reservoir formations, with an overall goal of producing a further 1 Bboe over the next four decades.
“The licensees have shown willingness to take risks and to pursue long-term planning to achieve energy-efficient development of these fields," said Torgeir Stordal, director general of the Norwegian Offshore Directorate. “They are accomplishing this by using digital technologies and by cooperating with technology companies and research institutions.”
Johan Molvig, Aker BP's senior vice president for the Valhall area, added, “When we connect Fenris and PWP, currently under development and scheduled for completion in 2027, we will be well-positioned for continued development and growth, establishing Valhall as a gas hub in the southern North Sea. These projects are also integral to this award."
Aker BP is exhibiting this week at booth 8380 at ONS 2024 in Stavanger. View the ONS program to learn more about presentations by Aker BP and more.
