TRONDHEIM, Norway — OKEA and its partners have established a Sognefjord East project for the Brage area in the Norwegian North Sea.
This will assess the potential for a development well on the Kim discovery and an appraisal strategy for the wider area. The company expects to submit an exempt for the plan for development and operation (PDO) to the Norwegian authorities in the current quarter.
Following the recent agreement covering a tie-in of the Bestla (ex-Brasse) Field to the Brage facilities, the topside modifications project can get underway.
In the Equinor-operated Statfjord area, where OKEA is a partner, technical problems that arose in January during a well completion at the Statfjord Unit caused a production loss from the well.
Following the two dry-hole wells at the Statfjord Unit that were completed last December, Equinor now plans to drill two sidetracks for mitigation purposes at the end of the year.
During first-quarter 2024, four wells were drilled out of the 10-15 wells scheduled this year in the Statfjord area. Two remaining gas-lift wells at Statfjord Øst should both come onstream by mid-year.
OKEA is working with Equinor to improve production efficiency and drilling performance at the Statfjord Unit.
Elsewhere in the North Sea, a rig has been secured to drill a fourth water-injector well at Nova in the second half of the year, and an additional perforation is planned of water-injector W-1 AH. These measures should improve injectivity at the field and increase oil production.
Var Energi, the new operator of the Gjøa production area, is working with the license partnerships on a coordinated development of the Ofelia and Gjøa North (ex-Hamlet) discoveries with a view to reaching DG1 in December 2024.
Further options are under review to appraise the Aurora discovery and drill the Selene prospect in PL195 west of Gjøa. Owners of other tie-in candidates are also considering the Gjøa platform as a potential host.
Finally, the Repsol Norge-led partnership in the Yme oil field in the eastern Norwegian North Sea has approved a multilateral well solution for the planned C-3 sidetrack, with drilling set to start in the next few weeks.
