FORNEBU, Norway  Aker Solutions has started on the planned FPSO for the deepwater Rosebank oil project west of Shetland for Altera and Equinor, under its joint venture with Drydocks World-Dubai.

In its latest results statement, Aker Solutions added that its Stord yard in western Norway is at present experiencing a high level of activity for Equinor’s Johan Castberg FPSO (a development in the Barents Sea), which arrived from Singapore in April. The company is responsible for the hookup work between the topside and the hull.

In cooperation with Equinor, the Castberg project has been a testing ground for applying new technologies and digital solutions such as 3D printing with more than 1,300 parts printed, Aker Solutions noted.

As for the plan to merge the company’s subsea business with SLB, first announced last August, the process of establishing the joint venture of SLB and Subsea7 is progressing and should close later this year, subject to regulatory approvals.
