WOODBRIDGE, UK  Amarinth will provide API 610 12th edition OH2 pumps for the Brodgar gas-condensate field expansion project in the UK central North Sea.

Brodgar, in water depths of about 146 m, is a subsea tieback to the Britannia bridge-linked platform, operated by Harbour Energy.

Amarinth’s pumps will incorporate Plan 53B seal support systems and noise attenuation enclosures to keep levels below 77 dB and will be certified for ATEX Zone 2 hazardous area operations. Due to the weight of the large motors, drive train adjustment screws will be fitted.

According to the company, the pumps are some of the first to be specified to the new API edition that was introduced last year. Stipulations for the design, manufacture and testing now include:

  • Piping connections gusseted in two orthogonal planes, and which meet the pressure-temperature requirements of the casing rather than the piping;
  • New performance and NPSH test procedures with additional test points and tolerance;
  • New mechanical run test procedure; and
  • A set of head versus NPSHA curves, one set for each test point taken.

Other projects Amarinth has worked on recently in the North Sea involved supplying skimming pumps for the Catcher FPSO in the UK sector; dimensionally interchangeable produced water pumps to replace Girdlestone pumps on the Dan Fox platform; and dimensionally interchangeable water cooling pumps for Equinor’s Gullfaks Subsea Compression project.
