LONDON — EnQuest claims its recently completed North West Magnus well in the UK’s East Shetland Basin was the longest reservoir section drilled in the North Sea this century at 1,914 m, and it represented the longest liner ever run in the Magnus Field.
Aside from this producer, EnQuest’s intervention program restored two other Magnus wells to service last year, with a third producer reinstated during the fourth quarter.
Following generator refurbishment work on the platform, the power generation unit has been performing consistently, suggesting prior topside issues have been largely resolved and allowing Magnus to deliver consistent gas supply to the UK.
This year the company will assess further asset integrity maintenance and plant improvements to lessen platform vulnerability. It also plans to implement various permanent repair solutions to wells impacted by the P-seal design, which has caused well integrity issues in recent years.
Three wells will likely be drilled this year, including a water injector to provide pressure support to the northwest Magnus well, hopefully boosting overall production from the field, which has estimated remaining 2C resources of 35 MMboe.
In the same region, while near-field drilling and subsea tieback opportunities are under assessment for the Kraken Field, EnQuest has deferred plans for further drilling following the impact of the UK government’s Energy Profits Levy.
Kraken holds about 33 MMboe of 2C resources, with main field side-track drilling and Pembroke/ Maureen sands opportunities, but any decision on investment will not take place until 2024 at the earliest.
At the nearby heavy Bressay oil field, EnQuest is working on farm-down opportunities while continuing to progress development planning. This follows the withdrawal of Equinor and Harbour Energy late last year.
In the central UK sector, operator CNOOC plans a platform well program this year at the Golden Eagle complex. At Alba, the partners are preparing for a well workover and two infill wells, the first of which should start producing oil in the summer.
