OSLO, Norway— The Norwegian Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) is investigating a well control incident that occurred on the Equinor-operated Gullfaks C platform late last month.
During a downhole operation in one of the production wells, breaks were observed in the coiled tubing along with a drop in wellhead pressure. The breaks are thought to have been caused by exposure to hydrogen sulfur (H₂S).
The well was shut in through activating the BOP and drilling/well operations were halted. There has been no reported leakage from the well.
