ABERDEEN, UK—ASCO has secured four new contracts for NORM (naturally occurring radioactive material) decontamination and disposal services from offshore operators with a combined value of more than £10 million ($11.8 million).
The company’s NORM Solutions subsidiary will provide management and decontamination of NORM material on various North Sea installations as they are decommissioned.
This covers receipt and decontamination of all types of offshore materials and equipment, followed by cleaning of items that will either be reused offshore or recycled.
NORM-contaminated sludge and liquids will be repackaged for safe transport and disposal, with support from ASCO's radiation protection supervisors who manage the offshore processes required to identify and safely store/offload contaminated material.
The company’s NORM decontamination facility in Aberdeen is accredited by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency.
