ABERDEEN, UK— A ballot is underway that could lead to Petrofac staff taking industrial action in a dispute over pay, according to offshore trade union Unite the Union.
About 140 members will vote, with the ballot due to close on Oct. 27. They include deck crew, platers, pipe fitters, electricians and riggers.
It follows the rejection by Unite members of a 3% offer, with then union claiming a broader measure of inflation (RPI) in the UK at present of 12.3%.
Unite has requested the restoration of the onshore training day and medical payments, and the reinstatement of a 10% salary deduction made in 2020 at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
If members do vote for industrial action, this would impact maintenance and running of Repsol Sinopec Resources’ UK North Sea platforms and the Flotta Oil Terminal on Orkney, northern Scotland.
