North Sea Oswig gas discovery warrants further investigation

STAVANGER, Norway  OMV has proven hydrocarbons in the HP/HT Oswig prospect in the Norwegian North Sea.

The partners have decided to drill a sidetrack and conduct a drillstem test (DST) to assess reservoir productivity and fluid properties and firm up potential resources, pending regulatory approvals.

According to partner Longboat Energy, these additional operations could take up to eight weeks to complete.

The exploration well 30/5-4S was drilled to a depth of 5,003 m TVDSS targeting the Tarbert and Ness formations. Analysis of coring and logging data suggests a strong correlation with the nearby producing Tune Field, operated by Equinor (which has produced 140 MMboe to date), and gas-condensate in the Tarbert Formation.

It is unclear, however, whether hydrocarbons are present in the deeper Ness Formation at this well location, but in-place gas in the Tarbert Formation appears to be higher than pre-drill expectations.

Oswig, a Jurassic rotated fault block, was thought to hold 93 MMboe pre-drill, making it one of the largest gas prospects tested in Norwegian waters this year.

Various other fault blocks have been identified on the block that could contain 80 MMboeone of the targets for the DST.

The other partners in PL1100 are WintershallDEA Norge AS and Source Energy.
