OSLO, Norway  Wintershall Dea Norge has permission from the Norwegian authorities for startup of its operated Nova Field in the North Sea.

Nova has been developed with two seabed templates, one for oil production and one for water injection, to increase oil recovery. The field will be tied back to the Gjøa Field infrastructure for processing and export.

Wintershall Dea estimates reserves at about 90 MMboe, and it expects to start production toward the end of this month, with the water injection system completed in September. Although the surrounding license was awarded in Norway’s APA 2007 round, the discovery well was only drilled in 2012. The company submitted its plan for development and operation in July 2018.

"Nova will help utilize available capacity in existing infrastructure and ensure extended operation of the Gjøa platform, which is the only hub in the northeastern part of the [Norwegian] North Sea," said Kalmar Ildstad, the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate's Director of license management.
