LONDON – Serica Energy has contracted the Transocean harsh environment semisubmersible Paul B. Loyd Jr. to drill the North Eigg exploration well this summer in the UK northern North Sea.
This is a high-pressure, high-temperature prospect close to the Serica operated Rhum gas-condensate field, a subsea tieback to the company’s Bruce field complex.
In the event of a discovery, Serica will assess options to tie back Eigg to Bruce with modifications to the platform topsides, pursuing early development.
Estimated potential resources are around 60 MMboe, based on seismic mapping and Rhum analogue data.
Serica is working on a second campaign this year to add reserves and prolong production from the Bruce/Keith/Rhum subsea wells. This will entail production re-instatement, well surveillance, production enhancement and well integrity activities on up to five subsea completions tied back to the Bruce platform.
A light well intervention vessel with a dive system will perform the work this summer.
In its latest results statement, the company added that it was seeking new opportunities to expand its portfolio and increase its production on the UK continental shelf. While the shelf has wide-ranging merger and acquisition opportunities, Serica says, its priority is to identify opportunities for value-addition that suit its own particular skills.
