STAVANGER, Norway – Odfjell Drilling’s semisubmersible Deepsea Stavanger has spud the Cambozola exploration well in the northern Norwegian North Sea for operator Equinor.
The location is 30 km (18.6 mi) northwest of the Kveikje discovery in PL 293B, close to the producing Troll/Fram areas, which holds an estimated 25-50 MMboe.
According to partner Longboat Energy, Cambozola is one of the largest gas prospects to be drilled offshore Norway this year, and could be a play-opener, potentially holding 159 MMboe.
The turbidite sand lobes of Lower Cretaceous age stand out as amplitude anomalies on seismic data, Longboat officials said. Drilling could take up to 14 weeks to complete.
According to Equinor, Kveikje was the sixth discovery in this area since the fall of 2019. The previous five discoveries proved potentially more than 300 MMboe in total.
Lill H. Brusdal, Equinor’s Vice President for the Troll area, said: “As we did with the other discoveries in this area, we will consider tying this discovery to the Troll B or C platform.”
Another partner in Kveikje, DNO International, said it would participate later this year on the Røver Sør exploration well in the same area, a follow-up to last year’s Røver Nord discovery.
DNO has a further five exploration wells scheduled for the North Sea in 2022 including the Edinburgh prospect on the Norway/UK median line.
