LONDON – Neptune Energy has discovered hydrocarbons in the Hamlet prospect in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea.
The CIMC-owned semisub Deepsea Yantai, operated by Odfjell Drilling, is drilling well 35/9-16S in the Gjøa license PL153, 58 km (36 mi) west of Florø in a water depth of 358 m (1,174 ft).
After logs confirmed hydrocarbons, the partners decided to initiate coring. According to Neptune, operations in the reservoir section are still at an early stage and it remains to be determined if commercial volumes are present.
Depending on the findings, a contingent side-track (35/9-16A) could be drilled to further define the extent of the discovery.
Other partners in the license are Petoro, Wintershall Dea and OKEA.
