OSLO, Norway – Noreco and its partners have secured funding to develop a CO2 transport/storage concept for the Danish North Sea.
Denmark’s authorities have agreed to provide DKK75 million ($11.41 million) for Project Bifrost under the ‘Energy Technology Development and Demonstration Programme’ (EUDP) subsidy scheme.
The project, due to start next year, includes development and selection of the concept at the Danish Underground Consortium’s (DUC) Harald field in the North Sea.
Bifrost will have an anticipated storage capacity at start-up of 3 MM metric tons/yr (3.3 MM tons) of CO2. In addition, a study will qualify the potential employment of additional depleting DUC North Sea reservoirs as they become available, and use of existing pipeline infrastructure connecting the DUC fields to Denmark.
