    ABP to upgrade Lowestoft port as offshore support center

    LONDON – Associated British Ports (ABP) plans to develop the Port of Lowestoft in eastern England to support companies across the Southern North Sea (SNS) energy sector and the wider East Anglia region.

    Over the next five years, ABP will work on the Lowestoft Eastern Energy Facility (LEEF), involving upgrades to marine facilities at Lowestoft’s Outer Harbour, ensuring the port can accommodate the next generation of offshore support vessels.

    It will include a site suited to operations and maintenance (O&M) activities and a quayside for construction support activities. 

    When complete, the project will provide 360 m (1,181 ft) of berthing space for simultaneous use by three offshore vessels and close to 5,000 sq ft (464 sq m) of new office space with direct quayside access.

    In 2019, Scottish Power Renewables opened an Operations and Maintenance building at the port’s Hamilton Dock to support the 714-MW East Anglia ONE offshore wind farm.

    In addition, the port hosts the O&M base for Scottish & Southern Energy’s Greater Gabbard Offshore wind farm, 23 km (14.3 mi) off the Suffolk coast.
