OMV Petrom enters deepwater Bulgaria block

OMV Petrom has acquired 100% of the shares in OMV Offshore Bulgaria, thereby entering the Han-Asparuh exploration block in the Bulgarian sector of the Black Sea.

BUCHAREST, RomaniaOMV Petrom has acquired 100% of the shares in OMV Offshore Bulgaria, thereby entering the Han-Asparuh exploration block in the Bulgarian sector of the Black Sea.

Following Repsol’s withdrawal from the concession, the Bulgarian regulator has reassigned its participating interest. Total is operator with 57.14%, with OMV Offshore Bulgaria holding 42.86%.

OMV is also a partner to ExxonMobil in the gas-proven Neptun Deep license to the north in the Romanian sector.

Han-Asparuh covers an area of 13,819 sq km (5,335 sq mi) in water depths of more than 2,000 m (6,562 ft). Exploration, which started in 2012, has included geological and geophysical surveys and the drilling of three wells.

In May 2020 a new 3D seismic campaign was completed over a 5,614-sq km (2,167 sq mi) area. The partners will base future exploration activities on the results.
