RIO DE JANEIRO – Petrobras has disposed of its full stake in the Baúna field (BM-S-40 concession area) in the shallow-water Santos basin to Karoon Energy Ltd.
After Karoon had fulfilled the previous conditions, the transaction completed with the payment of a further $150 million to Petrobras. Karoon will pay the about $40 million outstanding in 18 months.
The Baúna field, offshore São Paulo state, came onstream in February 2013 through the FPSO Cidade de Itajaí. Production between January and September 2020 averaged 16,000 b/d of oil and 104,000 cu m/d of gas.
According to Karoon, once the Brazilian oil and gas agency ANP has issued approval, the FPSO charter contract and FPSO services agreement should then be completed, allowing the company to take over as project operator.
Elsewhere in the Santos basin, Karoon operates blocks S-M-1037 and S-M-1101, where it recently completed pre-FEED studies relating to the redeployment of the circular-shaped FPSO Piranema Spirit for a potential development of the Neon field.
Offshore South Australia, the company is working with the authorities to relinquish Permit EPP46 in over the Ceduna sub-basin, in the Great Australian Bight.
