QatarEnergy has appointed Shell as its second international partner in the North Field South expansion project offshore Qatar.

DOHA, Qatar —QatarEnergy has appointed Shell as its second international partner in the North Field South (NFS) expansion project offshore Qatar.
The produced gas will be piped to two new LNG trains with a combined capacity of 16 MMt/y, lifting the country’s overall LNG production capacity to 126 MMt/yr.
Shell will have a 9.375% share of the 25% interest being made available to international companies, with QatarEnergy holding the remaining 75%.
The North Field Expansion Project, encompassing the NFS and the North Field East (NFE) expansion projects, is due to start production in 2026 and should add more than 48 MMt annually to global LNG supplies by 2027.
