PARIS – Total is acquiring a 40% interest in a production sharing contract offshore Myanmar covering block M-11 in the Martaban basin. PTTEP will retain operatorship. The block covers 5,373 sq km (2,074 sq mi), in water depths ranging from 200-2,300 m (656-7,546 ft).
Under the agreed work program, an exploration well is due to be drilled by 3Q 2013. Approval is pending from the Union of Myanmar authorities.
Total currently operates the Yadana gas field on offshore blocks M5 and M6. Produced gas is sent mainly to PTT for use in Thai power plants.
However, Yadana also supplies Myanmar’s domestic market via a subsea pipeline built and operated by state-owned MOGE.
