LONDON – Trapoil expects drilling to start soon on the Scotney exploration prospect in the UK North Sea.
The well, operated by Suncor Energy, will be drilled by the semisubmersibleAwilco Hunter on license P.1658, block 20/5b. The well will be drilled to an estimated TVDSS of 10,580 ft (3,225 m).
Scotney is a four-way dip closure at base Cretaceous unconformity level with the reservoir objective in late Jurassic Tweedsmuir sands. Prospective resources could be 57 MMboe.
Trapoil is also a partner in UK license P.1610, block 13/23a, where another well should spud soon on theMagnolia prospect.
However, planned drilling of the Crazy Horse prospect in P.1650, block 14/13 (Trapoil 17%) will likely be delayed until 2014. Operator Noreco withdrew from a previously agreed rig contract due to uncertainty over the timing of the rig delivery.
Britain’s government has granted Noreco a six-month extension to the initial license term, which had been due to expire next Monday, to allow a suitable rig to be found.
