OSLO, Norway — BW Energy says its DHBSM-1 appraisal well on the Dussafu Marin license offshore Gabon has delivered commercial volumes of oil in the Hibiscus South satellite prospect.
The well, drilled by the Borr Norve jackup from the MaBoMo production platform to a total depth of 6,002 m, was targeting an area 5 km to the southwest.
Analysis of logging data, downhole samples and formation pressure measurements confirmed about 20 m of pay in a 26.5-m hydrocarbon column in the Gamba Formation, which is productive at the Tortue and Hibiscus fields elsewhere on the block.
Well data also showed that Hibiscus South is a separate accumulation with a deeper oil-water contact than the nearby Hibiscus Field, with 6 MMbbl to 7 MMbbl of oil thought to be recoverable.
The result could lead to drilling of one or more production wells from the MaBoMo platform. BW Energy plans to return to DHBSM-1 to complete it as a producer early next year.
CEO Carl K. Arnet said, “The result also confirms the significant potential of the Dussafu license where we have multiple additional future prospects.”
