DALLAS, TX — Kosmos Energy will assume operatorship of the giant Yakaar-Teranga gas discoveries offshore Senegal after bp decided to withdraw from the project.
Subject to approvals by Senegal’s government, Kosmos will won a 90% interest, the remainder held by state-owned Petrosen.
Yakaar-Teranga contains an estimated 25 Tcf in place, with minimal impurities and CO2 content that should limit the need for processing ahead of transportation/liquefaction.
Kosmos has been working with Petrosen and the government on a development that would produce about 550 MMcf/d of gas, with supplies for the domestic market sent to shore via a pipeline and export volumes liquefied on a FLNG vessel.
Once optimization of the concept has finished, the project will move into the FEED phase.
Kosmos said it hoped Petrosen would participate as an equal partner with a greater working interest. The two parties will seek to form an aligned partnership with all necessary upstream and midstream skills, and with access to financing.
Elsewhere in West Africa, Kosmos is a partner in the TEN development offshore Ghana. The Tullow Oil-led partnership has submitted to the government a draft amended plan of development for new activity and a combined gas sales agreement for the Jubilee and TEN fields.
Offshore Equatorial Guinea, Kosmos expects a new infill drilling campaign to start shortly after the contracted rig has completed two well workovers.
Akeng Deep, a near-infrastructure opportunity targeting ~180 MMbbl of oil in the deeper Albian trend, should spud next year after the current campaign has ended.
